Inflatable rides banned!

Hello its John again...on Monday I blogged about the inflatable slide that I reluctantly let the kiddos go down. Today there was an article in the newspaper about how this exact same slide flipped over while a boy was on it..YIKES! Let this be a lesson to you all...if its a carny ride don't get on it!

more festival fun

I would have to say that the "hit"  of the goetta festival,
besides the pricey slide rides of course, was the funnel cake!

YUM.

YUM.

Goetta Festival

First of all...for those who don't live in Cincinnati...what is goetta? Goetta is an old german peasant dish that was meant to extend meat products by mixing it with oats. Its another donation to the world from Cincinnati...just like cornhole and Carmen Electra! Its a dish worth celebrating, right? Anyways..we went to the Goetta Festival, and it was kinda fun. Lots of different types of goetta, goetta omellete, goetta sausage, goetta burgers, and others that I have forgotten. Live music, lots of good food, antiques, people watching, arts and crafts and of course rides!

Paloma and Lio saw the giant inflatable slide from a distance and they decided that it would be fun to go down this giant bouncy slide. So..we walked up to the Carny and paid her the money. One dollar for one time down the slide! ...pricey! and of course after they went down once, they wanted to go again. I was saying "no" but vicki talked me into shelling our another 2 bucks to hand over. The kids did enjoy it alot. Overall we had goetta balls, funnel cake and frozen lemonade...can you get better than that? It was a beautiful day and will live in my memory, and my digestive tract for a long time.

tired

This morning we all went for a little exercise - bike riding and roller blading!  The kids were really great on their bikes (lots of stamina), and John and I did well considering we haven't roller bladed in about 10 years.  Paloma didn't even make it home before falling asleep, and John and Lio took in a little snuggle time shortly after lunch.

*On a totally random note, I'm going to see if John would like to guest blog for me once a week.  Who would be entertained by that?  Please leave a comment to encourage him!!!

latest gadget

Remember when I said that I was going to get something cool if I kept those Nike shoes?  Well, the shoes still aren't great, and my feet actually hurt a lot after consecutive days of running.  I don't know if it's the shoes or just me getting used to running, and I don't even know where I would go with shoes after being at that store for hours on end.  So I decided to keep the shoes and just do it  (get it - Nike slogan?).

John actually got this as a Father's Day gift - now that he's Mr. Running Man he needed to see his distance and times, all while listening to some tunes.
Of course he picked his favorite color blue for the ipod nano, and it straps to his arm so he can track all of those important things.  What I think is pretty cool is the chip that fits into Nike shoes.  It records your stride and pace so it's truly individual.

John and I went to the track to calibrate our individual chips, so now we are ready to start monitoring our runs, and can even run distances that we don't know ahead of time since the ipod will tell us how far we are running.

Hopefully after all of this investing in gear I will keep up with this running thing.  Today isn't looking too good - I'm sore and tired and wondering why I think I can do this!

bicycle crash

Last week, my nephew Jacob had a terrible accident on his bike, had to have surgery, and is now in a cast for the summer.  We all feel so bad for him - he is truly the kid that loves to be outside running, riding and climbing.  Now all he can do is walk.  I'm pretty sure that his summer is ruined, but hopefully he will get to have adventures of a different kind.

What do you send a kid that can't do anything?

After thinking about it, we decided to get him a game - Rush Hour, that he can play by himself and manipulate with his good hand.  And of course, had to make him a custom t-shirt that he can use to explain what happened to him.  I'm sure he's going to get tired of telling people about it!

My 1st attempt bled, so Lio has inherited it.  He's already had a minor bike crash this summer, so it is sort of fitting.

So here is attempt #2.  I liked the white on the brown better, but was worried that the shirt wouldn't be big enough for Jacob to fit his cast under comfortably.  Of course the next size up was just wayyyyy too huge.  But I think the green looks nice, too.

Jacob, we love you and miss you!  Off to the post office.

Whistles and the Tooth Fairy

For a few days now, Lio has been wiggling his front tooth - nonstop.  (It's truly one of the few things that makes me really queasy!)  It's the 3rd tooth that he's lost - the 1st was on Christmas, and the 2nd was on Valentine's Day.  I was hoping that this 3rd one could wait a week until the 4th of July, but no such luck with all of that wiggling!  It fell out in the middle of the night when Lio was sleeping, and he found it in his bed this morning.  I am so glad that he didn't swallow it!!!  With the extra space between his teeth, there's an extra bonus... he has learned how to whistle.  And yes, there is a bit of a lisp.
